Grandmont Rosedale grooming shop Cutz Lounge celebrates Grand Opening Aug. 11
Shop offers jazz, co-working and community events

Cutz Lounge, a jazz-themed grooming shop focused on hair care for men, women and children, celebrates its Grand Opening in Detroit’s Grandmont Rosedale neighborhood August 11. Owner Dante Williams, who has worked as a licensed barber for 26 years, moved his family and his business to the Grandmont Rosedale neighborhood from Inkster one year ago.

“The Grandmont Rosedale community focuses on community involvement and resident-centered events,” says Williams. “The neighborhood has such a rich history, and I knew Cutz Lounge could build on that history while adding something new. I’ve never been in a community that works so hard to support each other. Being of that same mindset, we will support the community right back.”

The shop is designed to serve as a neighborhood hub, and has already begun hosting a popular monthly jazz night. The shop also hosts community and entrepreneurship events.

Williams worked with several business support organizations to launch Cutz Lounge, including TechTown Detroit’s SWOT City program, which provides customized, one-on-one consulting to brick-and-mortar businesses in Detroit’s neighborhoods. Williams also worked closely with the Grandmont Rosedale Development Corporation (GRDC) and ProsperUS, and he is a member of the first cohort of Rebrand Detroit, an initiative of the Knight Foundation Knight Cities Challenge.

“SWOT City has provided crucial services to my company and helped me shake hands with individuals who provide the services and resources necessary for me to meet my short- and long-term goals,” says Williams. In the past year, SWOT City has supported 14 new and existing Grandmont Rosedale businesses, working in partnership with GRDC.

“SWOT City helps individual businesses launch, sustain and grow while, at the same time, catalyzing Detroit’s key commercial districts,” says Regina Ann Campbell, TechTown’s managing director of place-based entrepreneurship. “We help Detroiters like Dante Williams establish their businesses in the city, providing jobs, opportunities and amenities in our neighborhoods.”

Cutz Lounge is located at 19655 Grand River Ave. in Detroit. The Grand Opening takes place from 3-6 pm on Thursday, August 11, followed by Jazz at the Lounge from 7-11pm ($8 cover). The shop will also offer half-off haircuts from 1-6pm. Regular store hours are 10am-6pm MondayThursday and Saturday, 9am-7pm Friday.
