As Director of Entrepreneurial Services, Betsy keeps the wheels of the Labs business unit running and helps grow the program. She oversees DTX Launch Detroit, the TechTown Business Incubation Center (TBIC) and TechTown’s Business Accelerator Fund programs. She is engaged in major recruiting and discovery efforts that are defined by the profile and character of Detroit, seeking disruptive technology in a diverse and untapped community.
Prior to coming to TechTown, Betsy celebrated a 40-plus-year career in documentary, advertising and educational filmmaking that took her around the world. She served as Director of Programs for Worldwide Documentaries, promoting the broadcast, distribution and educational use of both A Closer Walk, a film on HIV/AIDS pandemic, and Not My Life, a film exposing modern-day slavery and human trafficking around the world.
She retired from General Motors as the Director of Business Operations for the Global Public Policy Center. She first came to TechTown to manage a capacity-building grant, BOOM the New Economy, for nonprofits supporting the encore careers of the Boomer generation—and she stayed.
