FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Detroit startup CarePRN enables access to licensed, on-demand home health care
Mobile platform aims to end family caregiver burnout

CarePRN introduces a new, convenient way for families to find private duty homecare for their loved ones. The Detroit-based startup has launched a website—CarePRN.com—and mobile smartphone app that enables families to find local, licensed, and background-checked home care providers on demand in Southeast Michigan. There are no long-term contracts and no minimum number of care hours required. Families simply download the CarePRN app or log on to the website, find a care provider and relax.

The CarePRN app and website are intuitive and easy to use. Families can tailor the type of non-medical care they need for each visit. During a care visit, families can monitor, communicate with and securely pay the care providers all through their smartphones or computers. Features also include: in-app notifications, geo-locations, clock-in/clock-out times, a ratings system, aftercare visit summaries and billing statements.

CEO Jason Wolfe-Greer developed the CarePRN concept after becoming a registered nurse while at the same time caring for a terminally ill loved one at home. In 2015, he brought his concept to the annual Hacking Health hackathon at TechTown Detroit. There, he developed both his concept and his team. After participating in a 10-week summer accelerator at TechTown, he continues to receive guidance through the organization’s Business Incubation Center.

“Caring for a loved one can be stressful. No one can do it all, but it is often difficult to find qualified professionals to assist,” explains Wolfe-Greer. “CarePRN makes the process simple. Helping families find home care on-demand will reduce family caregiver burnout, allowing families to care for their loved ones at home longer. When families can care for their loved ones at home longer, their loved ones are happier and have better health outcomes, and families save money.”

Trust is paramount to CarePRN’s model. The company individually vets each care provider through a rigorous four-step process. CarePRN performs background checks on each care provider utilizing the Offender Tracking Information System and a supplemental third-party service. The company then verifies that each care provider has an active license clear of any citations and requires each care provider to complete a pre-interview questionnaire. The care providers are then interviewed before being activated on the CarePRN network.

The CarePRN team actively built relationships within the Detroit medical community and participated in multiple business competitions to help fund the venture. CarePRN has received awards from Hacking Health, the Accelerate Michigan student business competition, the Detroit Technology Exchange program and the Michigan Greenlight business model competition.

“CarePRN is a valuable tool when life happens,” says Shawn Bennis, MSN, RN, Family Caregiver Coordinator and President of iCare4U Employee Resource Group at Henry Ford Health System. “On demand caregiving provides peace of mind when you have to be at work, school or other commitments knowing your loved one will be cared for. This service is a unique option for busy caregivers.”
