Rocket Community Fund’s Small Business Murals Project
Since 2017, Rocket Community Fund has worked with 19 artists to create 26 murals for Detroit businesses with the goal of connecting art and entrepreneurship. This Fall, TechTown collaborated with Rocket Community Fund and ProsperUs to identify small businesses that would benefit from murals created by prominent Detroit-based artists selected by 1xRUN. As part of the Small Business Mural Project, two TechTown 313 STRONG (formerly SWOT City) clients, Taqueria Nuestra Familia and Mangonadas Del Barrio each received new murals which are now available to view. Since 1998, Taqueria Nuestra Familia has served authentic Mexican cuisine, with recipes that have been passed on from generation to generation in the Canchola family. Visit them at 7620 Vernor Hwy and view their new mural, created by native Detroiter and international artist Freddy Diaz.
Mangonadas Del Barrio is a family-owned, community-focused business in Detroit serving up authentic Mexican flavors and unique frozen treats. Visit them at 1210 Lawndale St in Detroit to view their new mural, painted by muralist and oil painter Lindy Shewbridge.
