David Behrens

Director of Building IT and Systems

Biography

David Behrens is the friendly face behind building IT and systems at TechTown Detroit. He’s passionate about leading the charge in software engineering, web development and IT administration, all aimed at making TechTown’s Collaborative Workspace an even better experience through technology.

David’s journey has taken him from web development in government contracting to being the director of operations and logistics in coworking spaces in Northern Virginia. In his previous role, he worked hard to build bridges between community members and local governments, making it easy for everyone to access resources and form meaningful connections with other businesses in the space. With a solid background in enterprise IT infrastructure and engineering, plus experience with a large commercial real estate developer, David brings a fantastic mix of skills to foster collaboration and drive digital transformation.

David is a proud contributor to several open-source software development projects and finds joy in extending the life of tech resources. In his downtime, David enjoys listening to podcasts, fixing up his colleagues’ phones and devices to help tackle the issue of e-waste, creating metalwork miniatures or crafting his next model rocket.

Outside of work, you’ll likely catch him with his wife and poodle, exploring restaurants and farmers markets. As a newcomer to Detroit, he’s excited to dive into the region’s food culture and diversity and would love to grab lunch with anyone, especially those who can introduce him to a new local gem!
