Training Series: Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
June 21, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
This Training Series workshop aims to help individuals and organizations learn about adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and how we can work together to understand, raise awareness and promote ACE prevention strategies in our communities.
According to the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services, 68% of adults in Michigan report experiencing one or more ACEs, which is a potentially traumatic or stressful experience that can happen to anyone before the age of 18. ACEs are common, and they have the potential to negatively affect physical, behavioral and economic health outcomes. The more ACEs a person has been exposed to, the more likely they are to experience poor outcomes. Not all people who experience ACEs develop chronic health problems. There are many protective factors — such as family and community support — that can offset the effects of ACEs.
During this workshop, attendees will:
- Understand the biological impact of ACEs and Neurobiology, Epigenetics, ACEs, and Resilience (NEAR) Science
- Understand the ACEs study and how ACEs are associated with health problems
- Gain awareness of evidence-based prevention strategies to prevent and mitigate the impact of ACEs
- Introduction to PACE D2A Data Dashboard and how using data can help inform ACE prevention strategies
- Understand the definition of resilience (individual, attachment/belonging, community resilience) and how being aware of high ACE scores can shift the narrative
This workshop is in partnership with ASL Education Consulting, Michigan ACE Initiative and MPHI’s Center for Strategic Health Partnerships.
This workshop is made possible with support from Bank of America, New Economy Initiative, Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation, and Verizon.
