gBETA Musictech Accelerator’s Detroit applications due September 8

Five startups to be selected for 7-week program, industry mentorship

gBETA, a free pre-accelerator program offered in Detroit since 2017, will operate a cohort this fall focused on musictech and entertainment startups. Applications are currently being accepted from any startup building music- or entertainment-related products, services or content.

Unlike the industry-agnostic program gBETA has previously run in Detroit, this program will leverage the networks of a broader partnership announced earlier this year among gener8tor, TechTown Detroit, Motown Museum and Capitol Music Group. The same group is also sponsoring the Motown Musician Accelerator in Detroit that began on August 23. That program will offer four local musicians the opportunity to further their careers in the music industry.

“The gBETA Musictech program represents an unprecedented opportunity for great talent in Detroit’s history,” said Paul Riser, director of Detroit Urban Solutions at TechTown Detroit. “I love the promise of the program because it stands to energize our collective tech, entrepreneurial and music community. When you bring together top-notch program partners and amazing musical heritage, such as that in the city of Detroit, you provide fertile ground for innovators to write their own chapter within the future of the music industry.”

The gBETA Musictech program will work with five startups selected from a competitive pool of local and national applicants. The program kicks off on Sept. 19 in Detroit, and will wrap up with a free, public “Pitch Night” the week of Nov. 4. The program participants will also be invited to attend and exhibit at Capitol Music Group’s Capitol Royale conference on Nov. 16 and 17.

Adrienne Palm, director of gBETA Musictech in Los Angeles, will also lead the Detroit Musictech program. Palm’s experience running gener8tor’s various accelerator programs, including previous iterations of gBETA Musictech, and vast connections in the music and tech industries have prepared her to make a large impact on the companies selected for the cohort. Stella Safari, director of gBETA Detroit, will continue in her role to support the Musictech program and the local startup ecosystem.

“I am beyond excited to be a part of this creative collaboration in the city of Detroit,” Palm said. “The combined resources of industry giants like Motown Museum and Capitol Music Group, amplified by local tech heavyweight TechTown Detroit, are one-of-a-kind and essentially stack the deck for the musictech companies who are ultimately chosen to participate in the program.”

gBETA Musictech is accepting applications through Sept. 8. Each startup selected for the program will receive individualized coaching and mentorship from the gBETA team during weekly one-on-one meetings. The startups will also gain introductions to 25+ mentors, including serial entrepreneurs, subject matter experts and investors.
