Two TechTown-supported companies will celebrate their grand openings on “313 Day,” March 13.
Everything Detroit, in Grandmont Rosedale, is a branding studio and retail store featuring made-in-Detroit and Detroit-branded home goods, apparel and personal items from local makers. The in-house marketing studio helps small and medium-sized businesses to build brand equity, add value to merchandise and build a loyal customer base through public relations and marketing services, including promotional videos, infomercials, product photo shoots and interviews. Everything Detroit owner Katrina Brown, also the founder of City Talk Magazine, has designed the business to reflect her mantra: Bringing Back Pride in Detroit.
Three Thirteen, on East Jefferson, is the latest venture of clothing designer Clement “Fame” Brown. The shop expresses the soul of Detroit through Brown’s own designs and some of the city’s hottest brands, including Detroit Hustles Harder, The Smile Brand, The Grand Scale, No Bottoms, Filthy Rich, Stay Laced and Detroit Ink.
Both Katrina and Clement have been working with TechTown’s SWOT City program, a small business support program for brick-and-mortar enterprises in Detroit neighborhoods. SWOT City provides one-on-one assistance to help launch, stabilize and grow local businesses and strengthen neighborhood commercial districts.
“Working with TechTown Detroit has been very beneficial,” says Clement. “They’ve helped me access local resources that will ultimately help grow my business.”
“What was once just a dream is now reality,” says Katrina. “My vision is clear after working with the team at TechTown. They have taken my plan of a few pages and assisted me in the development of a strategic business outline with specific objectives, strategies, financing, and a sales and marketing plan, topped off with determination to get things done.”
“SWOT City helps businesses plan, work through challenges, connect to resources and develop long-term strategies for success,” says Regina Ann Campbell, TechTown’s managing director for place-based entrepreneurship. “I don’t think there could be a better tribute to our work and our commitment to Detroit than to see two of our businesses that celebrate our great city holding their grand openings on 313 Day.”
