Rachael Thomas

Communications Specialist

Biography

Rachael Thomas is the Communications Specialist for the nonprofit, using her writing and editing skills to create inspiring content and support communications efforts for TechTown, Hatch Detroit by TechTown, and the Wayne State Office of Economic Development.

Prior to joining the team, she was an associate editor at Hour Detroit magazine. There, she wrote and edited stories for Hour Detroit’s Life & Style section as well as curated content for its daily e-newsletter. During her three years at the magazine, Rachael developed a passion for Detroit’s entrepreneurs and small businesses, and enjoyed reporting on the city’s fashion, retail, and arts industries. She looks forward to nurturing those interests in a new way at TechTown. Rachael earned her bachelor’s degree in fashion merchandising and design and a minor in journalism from Central Michigan University.

In her free time, Rachael loves searching for a colorfully printed dress or a pair of funky earrings to add to her wardrobe; grabbing a latte at one of her favorite local coffee shops; enjoying a meal with family and friends at one of Detroit’s amazing eateries; tending to her plant babies; and watching a good horror or thriller movie.
