TechTown and the Rocket Community Fund have partnered to shine the spotlight on business owners and ecosystem service providers who responded quickly to the COVID-19 pandemic. As we count down to the end of 2020, we will share the stories of these “Innovators” in an effort to elevate the ingenuity of Detroiters and lift spirits.
For our fifth Innovator Series spotlight, we spoke with Zach Berg and William Werner, founders of Mongers’ Provisions.
Q: Why do you do what you, and how long have you been doing it?
A: Will has been working in specialty food since 2016. Zach has been working in specialty food, and especially cheese, since 2008. We do what we do because we love connecting people! We believe food is the perfect way to learn about people, cultures and geography.
Q: How did you adapt or pivot what you do since March?
A: Since March we have added hundreds of products to our website and learned to ship as well as deliver. We also started offering virtual tasting experiences. We do tasting experiences that are open to the public as well as private tastings for various groups.
Q: What has been the impact of your response to the COVID-19 pandemic?
A: We have been incredibly lucky in this time to find opportunity and even growth. While changing the way we do business has been difficult, we have been the fortunate ones within our industry. We have found a way to continue to feed people, hire more staff and grow as a business!
