Raxplay is creating a new way for music listeners everywhere to experience music. Our TechTown staff had an opportunity to sit down with founder Isaac Lymon to discuss how they started and what they are doing to turn music albums into mixed reality experiences.
Q: How was Raxplay started?
A: We started off in the DTX Launch program. Two of us were in the program for separate ideas on two separate teams, and after our teams fell apart, we decided to come together.
Q: How did it feel to win the grand prize during TechTown’s DTX Launch Detroit program?
A: It was actually crazy. It felt good. It was like “We did it.” We had an end goal in mind, and we achieved it.
Q: Let’s talk about life after DTX. You’re now a part of the gBeta Music Tech Accelerator. Can you tell us more about that program?
A: The gBeta Music Tech Accelerator is a partnership between Capitol Records, Universal along with Motown and TechTown. It’s a really amazing program focusing on early-stage music tech companies. The expertise, networking, mentorship and resources have been really helpful. We’re very thankful, and it’s opening a lot of doors for us.
Q: How has TechTown played a role in your entrepreneurial journey?
A: TechTown has been super helpful. From Stefan, Jeff, Paul Riser … they provided us with a lot of needed guidance. That’s the most important thing we can takeaway is the people. Just being surrounded by this energy helps keep us focused. Ultimately, the people that TechTown has put us in contact with have been extremely beneficial.
Q: You have a music company, so who are some musicians that inspire and influence you?
A: That’s easy. First is Jay-Z. [Also] Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Herbie Hancock and Pharrell. Those are all guys we look up to.
Q: What’s next for Raxplay?
A: We’re focusing on the next stage as far as where we want to go and what impact we want to have. We want to focus on pre-seed funding. We want to have a live experience out on the market. We actually have a live experience coming soon with a major artist in January or February, fingers crossed.
