The SHOP, TechTown Detroit’s world-class pop-up, has expanded to Detroit’s Fisher Building for a new iteration of the program called The SHOP Detroit. This iteration will allow independent small business owners at various stages of development to test their pop-up ideas in an actual retail storefront.

Independent bookseller Alcott’s Attic and Yarn Nerds, a high-end natural fiber yarns and accessories shop will each share the approximately 1,000-square-foot suite, just steps away from the doors of the Fisher Theatre, along the building’s spectacular grand arcade. The SHOP Detroit will open its doors to the public on Friday, August 25 at noon. The hours of operation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Alcott’s Attic and Yarn Nerds will occupy the retail storefront in the Fisher Building through December 2023.

The SHOP Detroit is designed to allow entrepreneurs and small business owners, particularly graduates of TechTown’s Retail Boot Camp Program who are on their way to owning their own brick-and-mortar location, a middle step between their pop-up or online product sales and signing a long-term lease,” said Christina Devlin, TechTown Detroit Retail Strategist. “Many small business owners need this intermediate step to provide them with an opportunity to generate sales, test their operations, grow their customer base and establish their credit history.”

Participants in The SHOP Detroit will continue to receive in-the-moment coaching from retail experts, offering an opportunity for small business owners to gain access to the TechTown community and its resources, network with fellow Detroit-area entrepreneurs, reach a broader customer base, learn about visual merchandising and generate sales.
